Is Green the New White? Fern Green with Black Hardware

Is green the new white? Over the past twelve months, we have refaced nearly as many kitchens in shades of green as we have in classic white, and homeowners are increasingly choosing soft, nature‑inspired greens as their new “neutral.” These colors offer the same calm, clean backdrop as white, but with a bit more personality and warmth, making them an ideal choice for clients who want a timeless look that still feels current.

In this project, the original kitchen featured white thermofoil cabinets that had been added onto over time with different cabinet styles. The result was a space that felt pieced together rather than cohesive. The cabinet boxes were still functional, but the finishes and door styles did not match, and the thermofoil surfaces were ready for an upgrade.

To create a unified, custom look, the homeowners chose Fern Green for their new cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Fern Green is a soft sage tone that pairs beautifully with a wide range of countertops, flooring, and hardware, and it works especially well in kitchens that receive good natural light. By refacing the existing cabinets in this color and bringing all of the doors and trim into the same finish, we were able to turn a mismatched, aging kitchen into a coordinated, design‑forward space—showcasing how green can absolutely stand in for white as a fresh, versatile foundation color.
