Laundry Room / Pantry: Years earlier, we had refaced this homeowner’s kitchen, creating a look they loved and used every day. When it was time to update the adjoining pantry and laundry room, they reached back out and asked us to design a space that would coordinate seamlessly with the kitchen and feel like a natural extension of it, rather than a separate, utilitarian back room.
Because the pantry and laundry area are open to or directly connected with the kitchen, we chose to use our Fresh Faced Cabinets line instead of standard closet materials from Up Closets of St. Louis. This allowed us to match the door style, construction quality, and finish more closely to the kitchen cabinetry, giving the entire main level a cohesive, built‑in look.
For the cabinetry, we selected Metropolitan Grey in a Shaker style door—clean, versatile, and sophisticated enough to work in both a working pantry and a laundry space. The neutral grey finish ties in with the tones from the kitchen while providing a calm backdrop for stored food items, cleaning supplies, and laundry essentials.
To warm up the room and add natural texture, we used Acacia butcher block for both the floating shelves and the countertop. The rich variation in the Acacia grain brings visual interest and softens the more functional aspects of the room. We supported the floating shelves with specially designed brackets that are engineered to handle everyday weight while maintaining a streamlined, “no visible support” appearance. The result is a highly functional pantry and laundry room that feels custom, matches the adjoining kitchen, and provides durable work surfaces and open storage that the homeowners can enjoy for years.
