Re-Dooring:  Simple, Quick and Affordable

The popularity of painted kitchens makes changing your style as easy as replacing the doors with a little paint on the cabinets.

The following video shows a 1960's Kitchen transformed in less than a week with new painted doors.  To add drama the peninsula was accessorized with a framed bead board and corbels.

Read more below about the process and approximate cost.

The Process:

  • Day 1 - These cabinets had been previously painted, so the first step was to remove all the doors, and Stephanie began prepping the cabinets for painting.  While prepping, Dave built the framing and beadboard treatment for the island.  Before leaving for the day we had the island treatment installed.

  • Day 2 -  The cabinets were painted and allowed to dry (1/2 day).

  • Day 3 -  Another coat of paint was applied, and necessary caulking was done.  To add interest and to make a more custom cabinet look, we add decorative door panels on the ends of the cabinets over the sink, and on cabinet ends.  Final trim work was completed on the island.

  • Day 4 -  Doors and Drawer fronts were installed.  Doors always get soft close hinges.  A new double hinged door was installed on the lower corner cabinet.

  • Day 5 -  We returned to install the knobs and pulls, and do final touch up.  (Day 5 is not always necessary, but the knobs and pulls were delayed)

Unlike a full kitchen remodel, the kitchen is fully functional during this process.

The Savings:

Not only do you save time and hassle with Cabinet Re-Dooring, but you save money.  A smaller kitchen like this can run from $4000 - $6000, depending on door style.  Most kitchens can be re-doored for under $10,000.  Compare that to the $10,000's of dollars it can take to fully replace cabinets, and be without a kitchen for weeks.
